For restaurants and commercial kitchens, we first confirm the grease content of the wastewater. Food-service wastewater normally requires a grease interceptor in accordance with local regulations. Large amounts of grease should not be discharged directly into a standard sanitary sewage lift station because this can increase sediment buildup, blockage and odour risks.

How to Select the Right Sewage Lift Station
We normally begin with the following six points. The more complete the project information, the more accurately we can match the pump model, tank and control system to actual site requirements.
Confirm the wastewater sources: List toilets, washbasins, showers, floor drains, washing machines and other connected fixtures. State whether the wastewater contains grease, fibres or corrosive substances.
Determine the peak flow: Consider fixtures that may discharge at the same time instead of relying only on average daily water consumption.
Calculate total dynamic head (TDH): Include vertical lift, friction losses in horizontal piping, bends, valves and discharge pressure.
Select the pump and tank: Base the selection on solids passage, required flow at the actual duty point, start/stop levels and allowable start frequency.
Choose a single- or dual-pump system: A single pump may be suitable for light residential loads. Dual pumps should be prioritised for commercial buildings and applications where downtime is unacceptable.

Tank Capacity and Pump Performance Curves
Based on our project-selection experience, a larger tank is not always better. An undersized tank can cause frequent starts or overflow during peak inflow, while an oversized tank may increase wastewater retention time, sediment buildup and odours. Tank capacity should be selected according to the design inflow, pump flow at the actual head, the difference between start and stop levels, and the allowable starting frequency.
Maximum flow and maximum head are not achieved at the same operating point. For engineering selection, the required flow and total dynamic head must be checked against the pump performance curve to confirm that the duty point lies within the recommended operating range.
Installation and Maintenance Guidelines
Selecting the correct equipment is only the first step. We also review piping, ventilation, electrical requirements and maintenance access with the customer because many operating problems are related to site installation conditions.
Confirm tank dimensions, inlet height and sufficient clearance for opening the cover and removing the pump.
Check pressure-pipe diameter, vertical lift, horizontal pipe length, bends and valves.
Connect the vent pipe in accordance with local drainage regulations. Never block the vent.
Install the control cabinet in a dry location that is easy to inspect and maintain.
During commissioning, test the level-based start/stop function, alarms, check valve and dual-pump changeover.
Regularly test the alarm and standby pump, and inspect the check valve, seals, level controls and control cabinet.
We specifically remind customers that wet wipes, sanitary products, textiles, hard objects, construction debris and large amounts of grease must not enter the system. Even when a macerator pump is installed, the unit is not designed to handle every type of solid waste.
